Plan for site content

Why will people come to this site?

People will come to this site for information on the many different types of tracks that the three NASCAR national touring series (NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series) visit each year. People will come here because it will be easy and quick to find basic information about every track on the schedule, including tracks that are not still being run.

What questions will this site answer?

NASTRACKS will answer common questions that a interested fan of the sport would be wondering about a track that they don’t know about; including the track’s length, age, surface type, surface banking, location, seating capacity, and where to buy tickets.

What kinds of activities will visitors complete on this site?

Visitors to this site will mostly be here to conduct quick research or fact checks about the many tracks on the NASCAR schedule. Additional activities a user may participate in is browsing through the site to see what makes each track unique, or comparing different aspects of different tracks to see which ones are the longest, steepest, or oldest.

What information is necessary to use the site?

Little information is needed from the visitor to use the site effectively. The site will be laid out in a way that is simple to navigate with well-written descriptions for each category that will make it easy for even a racing-illiterate person to navigate the site quickly with little effort.

Why will visitors come to this site instead of others to get this information?

Users will come to this site because it is a purpose-built site for this topic specifically. Other sites that contain some of this information have it as a feature, rather than as the main focus. This will allow this site to show this useful information at the forefront. Because of this, it will be a easy-to-remember stop on the web that users can get to quickly without having to search through pages of other sites that have this information poorly organized or behind multiple clicks and menus.

Images

Images will play a large roll for the site. The background image will change for each track category, and will correspond with the image shown on the button for that category on the homepage. Images will be used from the embed function on Getty images, which allows for free non-commercial use of their images. Track layout images are found on the iRacing.com UI and are allowed by iRacing to be used non-commercially.

Information

The website is being built around short and sweet facts and easy to find information. Each page will have a short summary describing what that page consists of, with the track category pages also having quick facts about each of the tracks on it.

Content

Home

The home page will consist of a large banner image with the logo of the site centered on it. Below it will have a simple navigation bar, as well as some basic information about the site below. Below the banner and navigation bar will be larger buttons that will also link to the child pages, but will contain images and short descriptions of what characteristics places a track into that category.

Track Category Pages

The track categories will serve at the website’s child pages. These pages will ditch the banner image in order to show more information on the screen, but will keep the navigation bar and site logo for consistency and easy navigation. The track category pages will mainly consist of a list of the tracks in their respective category, along with an image of each track’s layout. Alongside the layout image will be quick facts about each track. These facts will mainly be short, numerical information like the information listed on the first page.

Intermediates

Intermediate tracks are longer than 1 mile in length, but shorter than 2 miles in length. These tracks feature high speeds and fast corners.

Superspeedways

Superspeedways are tracks that are more than 2 miles in length. These tracks feature full-throttle competition with little to no braking. This makes for close, fast racing and arguable the most exciting racing the sport has to offer.

Short Tracks

Short tracks are less than 1 mile in length. These tracks feature close racing with moderate to heavy braking in the corners. Short tracks are what NASCAR was built on, and many fans still hold them on a pedestal as the most entertaining tracks to watch.

Road Courses

Road courses vary in length and feature both right and left turns. NASCAR has adapted its schedule in recent years to include more of these tracks than ever before. They feature many different styles of tracks that include elevation changes, tight corners, and fast straightaways.

Dirt Tracks

Dirt tracks are exactly what they sound like, tracks with a dirt surface. NASCAR's roots are on dirt. But with the rapid growth of the sport shortly after its inception, the tracks evolved and moved to asphalt. Recently, NASCAR has returned to dirt for a few select events.
